Inspiriting Innovation: The Effects of Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) on Innovative Behavior as Mediated by Mindfulness and Work Engagement

Continuous innovation has become a key to gaining sustainable competitive advantage for organizations in the 21st century. By focusing on underlying mechanisms (i.e., mindfulness and work engagement) by which it works, this study addresses quality of leader–member relationships their relevance workplace. Using sample 210 employees from 17 Spanish companies, two-wave longitudinal design evaluated mediational roles engagement between exchange (LMX) innovative behavior (IWB) an organizational context. Over course year, two questionnaires were administered measure LMX quality, mindfulness, engagement, IWB. Results structural equation modeling provided support hypothesized double-mediation model with significant full double mediation. Findings suggested that could be characteristic high-quality helps facilitate innovation. Practical implications include its creative value edge over market competitors helping find source consistent growth through human capital potential.
